Alloy 625 has a austenitic (face‑centered cubic) structure with niobium and molybdenum additions. The alloy is strengthened by precipitation of the intermetallic phase γ″ (Ni₃Nb) and carbides. This structure provides excellent ductility, weldability, and thermal stability over a wide temperature range.

Acids – Sulfuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric, nitric, and organic acids.
Chloride environments – Pitting resistance equivalent (PRE) > 45, outperforming 316 stainless and Alloy C276 in many conditions.
Sour gas – Resists H₂S stress corrosion cracking per NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
High temperature oxidation – Protective chromium oxide scale forms up to 980°C.
Crevice corrosion – Critical crevice temperature (CCT) > 80°C in 10% FeCl₃.
